Sports Odd Couples

Whether between teammates, players and coaches or coaches and owners, professional sports has given us some memorable relationships. Here's a look at some of those sports odd couples - For better or for worse...

Teammates Between the Lines

Terrell Owens and his QBs

The player (as Bill Parcels referred to him) torched relationships
with QBs Garcia, McNabb and Romo.

Barry Bonds and Jeff Kent

While close in the line up, Kent and Bonds were not friends and had
both dugout and locker rooms scuffles.

A-ROD and Derek Jeter

While the two stars had a brother-like relationship
early in their careers, the relationship turned icy
soon after they became Yankee teammates and
one of them had to make the move to third base.

Michael Jordan and Dennis Rodman

Air and the Worm - The NBA's greatest player and biggest wild child.
There is little doubt that these two teammates did not hang out off
the court. Not because they didn't get along, they just had nothing
in common once the buzzer sounded.

Hey Coach, How am I Doing?

Manny Ramirez and Joe Torre

Cool Hand Joe and Manny the Eccentric have bonded in L.A. It's not
like Torre hasn't had experience dealing with and stroking the egos
of the likes of Senor Manny, while still getting them to play their best.

Reggie Jackson and Billy Martin

Their relationship (including a dugout scuffle)
alternated between feuding and clowning around.

Allen Iverson and Larry Brown

While this photo suggests that Brown and AI were
chummy, they never really got along.

Charles Barkley and Hank Haney

Charles has a brand new bag...And a new (and probably only) swing
coach. God bless Hank Haney.

You Aren't the Boss of Me...Oh, Wait...Maybe You Are.

George Steinbrenner and Billy Martin

As the owner of the NY Yankees, George hired and fired Billy as the
team's Manager...Five different times.

Al Davis and Lane Kiffen

The Young and the Clueless. Davis fired his first year head coach
(who's office was just down the hall) via Fedex.

Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson

Oil and water just don't mix. Even though they won Super Bowls
together, the oil tycoon owner and sport fisherman coach wrestled
for control of the team.

Mark Cuban and Don Nelson

Their relationship always seemed uneasy and when Nelson left Dallas
to coach Golden State, He sued Cuban for remaining money due
to him under the terms of his Dallas contract.

Special thanks to my part-time contributor and editor, Will Weiss
for his input on this story.
